Pine Needle Dams Eating Metal & Wood
What is Happening: Loblolly pines dump heavy mats of needles into valleys and behind brick chimneys. In our humidity, that debris rots into a wet sponge that leaches tannic acid. Over a couple of seasons, that acid eats right through builder-grade galvanized tin flashings and turns the wood decking underneath into mush.
We do not just blow off the needles and slap black roof cement over the rust; that caulk bakes and splits within one Houston summer. We tear out the rusted metal down to bare rafter wood, lay down high-temperature ice-and-water shield as an impermeable underlayment, and install heavy-gauge steel or copper flashings cut straight into brick mortar joints through our Chimney Flashing & Repair process so acidic runoff cannot touch your lumber.
